Injecting Colour Into The Home

I'm a real lover of neutral colours and neutral home decor, but I've been a bit braver recently and started to inject colour into our home. Many would still say, 'its neutral', but a girl's gotta start somewhere!

I love clean white lines and a feeling of space and much of my home is painted in white emulsion.

I wanted to add some colour to our lounge, as it was starting to look tired. So, I decided on adding Farrow and Ball's, Charleston Gray.  Add this colour wall to our lounge has really made a feature and made the white cornice coving really stand out more. It's also made the room feel more homely and warmer for the winter.

Of course, there's more than one way to add colour to your home. It doesn't have to involve a can of paint.

Here's my favourite ways to add colour:

  • Soft furnishings and Rugs
  • Accessories
  • Wall features
  • Artwork/Wall Art
  • Statement Chair

Colour can inject personality, bring warmth and make a room look larger or smaller.

If you're thinking of adding colour to a room, why not make a mood board first, to check you really do like the colour scheme and can find the accessories to match. Simply cut or print out pictures from magazines or Pinterest and put them on a board or large piece of paper.

When thinking about colours its a good idea to keep in mind that each colour has a psychological value. Think about how certain colours make you feel.

Take a look at different coloured rooms on social media and see what emotions you feel when looking at the different colours. There are so many paint charts out there readily available, its easy to get overwhelmed so try to narrow the choices down.

Paint is relatively inexpensive, so why not have a little experiment. Try to use no more than 2-3 colours in one room though, or you could create a cluttered space.

Have fun experimenting!
